Fiery Red and Earth Green

Phone BoxesI was recently in London at an Insights Discovery conference where we were expanding our knowledge and developing our skills with the wonderful colourful world that this instrument provides. As a seasoned Practitioner of the amazing model that helps develop high performaing individuals, teams and organisations it is always in the back of my mind, even when I am out for a stroll.

This day was no different but my mind was well occupied with other thoughts as I strode along. And then, a simple turn of my head and I spotted these phone boxes and the colour energies of what we call Fiery Red and Earth Green sprang to the forefront of my mind. Hence the picture. I had not seen a green telephone box before either.

On closer inspection the old red phone box was still a telephone box where one could make calls – although with the dramatic increase in cell phones there is seldom anyone in them. I am old enough to remember when often, one had to queue with a handful of coins if one wished to speak with anyone by phone when not at home or in the office – how times and technology have changed. In fact I remember as a child my grandma, who had a telephone at home, when local people in the village would knock on the door and ask to use the phone to call people. They would have their conversation sitting in the room with us and then pay a few pennies for the call, and then leave. There was no phone box nearby, so she bacame the point of focus, with the occasional ‘inward’ message also being left that needed to be passed on to someone down the road. I still remember her number even though she has been gone for many years.

The green phone box, you may be able to see, is called a ‘solarbox’. On closer inspection it is where one could recharge a portable device, or at least manage to find enough power to help in a situation when one’s phone has lost charge, yet a call is needed.

These two ‘boxes’ do actually match the colour energies of Insights Discovery – Fiery Red being about action, urgency and the need to get things done, and done now. Earth Green is more about caring, sharing and making sure that people are looked after – in this case making sure that in a time of need there is support and a helping hand.

So as I went on my way I smiled at the vibrancy of the two colours. I also noticed that many people from other countries were taking their photographs of these unusual boxes.

It also got me thinking:

  • Do I have the urgency to get things done in a Fiery Red way? And when, all too often I do….
  • Do I have the care and consideration of others to offer the more Earth Green approach?

The yin and yang each have their power. Are you embracing both?

And just in case you think there are only two colours and we use only one – no: we have four colour energies and we lead with one, yet the other three have their special place too.

My good wishes,

Peter
