Where is your anchor point?

Insights Discovery AnchorI was walking along a beach on the east coast of England the other day, lost in my thoughts as I strode out. The wind was blowing strongly as the country was about to be lashed by an infrequent storm. I transpired that it was, for England, very windy causing electricity to be lost for 36 hour to over 20,000 homes and at various stages during the 24 hours nearly 1 million homes were without electricity for a while. Fortunately I live in a part of the world where we do have power, and any storm, such as this one, usually means the time when power is lost it is for a relatively short period of time.

However back to my walk.

I noticed these splendid anchors lying on the beach. It made me think about ourselves and the place where our own personality anchor is set. I am Licensed to use the Insights Discovery portfolio, which in a highly recognized instrument for identifying our behavioural preferences. It is used extensively in organisations to maximize performance. I use it to maximize individual performance, team performance and business performance. It roots are in Jungian psychology – its branches stretch across the world. The impact this makes can be profound in a very positive way.

So why the interest in the anchor? Well I am one of the few people accredited to the highest level in Insights Discovery and qualified to use the Deeper Discovery instrument. I liken the unique Personal Profile of Insights Discovery as our anchor point – it may move a little but it is unlikely to move that much unless we have experienced our own ‘storm’.

The Deeper Discovery Profile does, however, explore the more delicate position of where we are in the current time and bears witness to the breezes that influence our lives.  It is more like the yacht at the other end of the anchor rope. The yacht having moored in a lovely cove and the gentle breeze slowly moving the yacht around on the surface. Some times the breeze blows a little stronger and the yacht moves even more. In extreme conditions the wind may pick up and toss the yacht around with the anchor being dragged. These are aspects that are picked up with the Deeper Discovery Profile.

This is one of the things that I love about this brace of Profiles – each with their unique portrayal of who we are, each with the unique messages that help deliver for our working lives….and also our lives beyond work. Now there is fascination and immense value in knowing our Insights Discovery anchor point – to help us in life no matter how hard the winds of change blow.

Wish to discover more, or even where your own personality anchor is placed? Do get in touch.

My best wishes,

Peter
