How has 2012 been for you?

As we head to the end of another year it is a great time to think about what the New Year will bring.  But before the New Year resolutions are made, thoughts of holidays discussed, plans for adventures outlined, normal routine considered, new career opportunities envisioned, new learning and development challenges reviewed….

Why not take a little time to reflect on all of the good things that have happened to you at a personal level, a family level and a business level in the past year.

It is so easy to consider all of the things that did not go well, the missed opportunities, the chances not taken when reward of some nature was within our grasp. Where we beat ourselves up for snatching defeat out of the jaws of probable success. It is so easy to take this approach – looking at the end of year news papers and news reports remind us of what has happened. But rather than the usual gloom, they report many of the positive aspects of the year. So why not do the same?

A far more positive thing to do is write out all of the successes you have had during the year.

Even if the year has felt to be one that you have merely survived there will be some fantastic things that you have achieved. Write them down, place a smile on your face and think. I find the best way to do this is to refer to any journal or diary you may keep. Even looking back at a calendar, which has recorded our appointments reminds us of so much that has happened…..and often forgotten.

At a national level we can quickly think of the camaraderie that has been developed during the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee year, during the Olympics and impressively during the Paralympics.

When you come to set your New Year plans you might just think back on how successful 2012 has been and realize that you have made a difference.

It is so easy to race into the next year without remembering the wonderful things that have happened to us in the past year. There is magic in this – so why not try it?

My best wishes,

Peter
